Celebrating comfort

Sydney Socias @THEWORKINGGIRL.CA

When Evita was designed, comfort wasn’t really what we had in mind. We were going for something more like classic, timeless, feminine, romantic, elegant, but not necessarily this feeling of being comfortable. Yet it’s a word that keeps coming up when people describe how they feel in it. Comfortable. Hmmm.

We sat with that for a bit and, before we completely dismissed this sentiment, we had to bring it back because, really, when you think about it, it’s exactly what we wanted to create. A dress that you can live in, work in, vacation in, dance in, lounge in, and so much more. The feeling of comfort doesn’t only come from wearing something comfortable, but also in knowing that what you’re wearing truly represents who you are in every way.

Look at Sydney and how comfortable she looks in Evita in our Fall blue & white printed chiffon. It’s glorious! Because what we want is for every woman to not only be comfortable in their own body, but to feel comfortable too.

Being comfortable with who you are and celebrating your confidence is exactly what we stand for and this dress embodies that sentiment. It moves with you. It’s a statement. You can wear Evita and be exactly who you want to be, and be so comfortable doing it knowing that what you’re wearing is a representation of who you are.

Stay comfortable, in every way possible!

Jessica Luxe's chic summer dress

Angelique Essmann

Jessica Luxe @jessicaluxe

The Vancouver-based style blogger Jessica Luxe recently posted a photo wearing our gorgeous Evita dress. Doesn’t she look great?

The adjustable waistband gives you tons of options from a super sexy deep V-neck and high side slit to a more demure neckline and shoes peeking out at the ankle. The full lining means that everything that’s meant to be under wraps stays that way! With 5 prints available, you can wear Evita for just about any occasion.

We love this dress for date night, a fun backyard barbecue, or even a picnic in the park. Where are you wearing your Evita?

Sixth Street Popup & Gallery is a space for artists, designers and creatives to play, explore and grow. The space is managed by Brick & Mortar Living, a local New West shop just two doors down. Brick & Mortar Living is a quaint shop in the heart of historic downtown New Westminster (just outside of Vancouver), filled with local designs, unique gifts and nostalgia for the home. Designers are carefully selected to show and sell merchandise that fits the shop’s curated aesthetic, bringing only the best to its clientele.

We are taking our love for fashion and beautiful clothing and making it count for so much more. By focusing on the people who form part of this intricate process, considering who they are and caring about the lives they lead, LAUDEM DEO aims to be one of the most ethical fashion brands. Sustainable fashion is possible.

The brand aims to be a part of revitalizing the South African fashion and textile industry, and is passionate about supporting these workers with fair wages and ethical working conditions. Our commitment to giving back doesn't only apply to our roots. We are also devastated by the recent wild fires in Fort McMurrey, Alberta, and will donate 10% of all sales to the Canadian Red Cross to support relief efforts in the area, and helping affected families with resources and resettlement.

Sixth Street Popup & Gallery is located at 42 Sixth Street in New Westminster, British Columbia V3L 2Z2. The shop can be reached at (604) 553-0289. We’ll see you there!

The Wrap that started it all

Angelique Essmann

Before LAUDEM DEO, I had never worked in the fashion industry. I studied fashion design at school in Cape Town, but I didn’t have long-term experience before starting the brand.

When I was living in the Cayman Islands, I was searching for clothing that was flattering and sophisticated, but that was also comfortable in the Caribbean heat. I would take swaths of fabric that I had acquired in South Africa and drape and wrap them in different ways. I was always receiving compliments on my style and had lots of women asking where they could buy the same thing!

When I returned home to South Africa, I just couldn’t shake the idea of bringing these concepts to life. I have a deep love for my country and knew I wanted to contribute to the growth of its economy. We are a proudly South African brand and by producing garments in this county, we are creating job opportunities for men and women in this sector that has been under strain for the last few years.

You can see some of these early ideas in our current collection, especially the Belicia and Olivia dresses. The concept for these started when I literally tied a piece of fabric around myself﹘now we obviously have seams and hems in these dresses so that anyone can wear these styles. (Although I will still wrap fabric around me if I find a beautiful piece to wear!) Because they can be adjusted to your body type, they truly look good on everyone. As women, we deserve to feel beautiful in our clothing, and at LAUDEM DEO we hope to create clothing that does just that.
